Cornerstone
Kids, Inc. Annual Report of Activities
Summary of 2010 Activities
The program operates Monday through Friday
from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with 35 children, a dedicated staff of
eight and a small pool of volunteers.
Activities, Accomplishments, and Donations-2010:

In January-Homework Assistance, Hooked on Phonics
and WebQuest Technology Programs resumed after the holiday vacation.

In February -Black History month was observed with
a program and a soul food dinner. Parents were invited to take part
in the celebration.

In March, 4 students passed the test to attend The
Academy Prep Center of Tampa. A Book Giveaway was held- the children
took home books from First Book Marketplace. Funds were raised at
dd’s Discount Store on Hillsborough to purchase the books.-Bess
the Book Bus was the guest storyteller, she also donated free books
to each child and the program.

In April, an ice cream social was held celebrating
birthdays for the quarter.

In May- The school year closed with the “End
of Year Musical” held for family and friends.

The six-week Summer Enrichment Program was fun-filled
and exciting. Fieldtrips were taken to Chuck E Cheese, USA Skates,
MOSI, Feeding America Tampa Bay (Food bank), and a Water Day with
a waterslide was held on site. Other activities offered included arts
and crafts, face painting, storytelling, board games, outdoor activities
and Tutoring/Mentoring by Travelers employees. Enrichment activities
were facilitated by volunteers and Cornerstone instructors.
Volunteers and instructors were honored for the important work they
do for the program.

In August, Thirty-five children were given school
supplies and backpacks provided by Travelers Outreach Committee.

In the fall, WebQuest, a technology web-based program
was expanded to include children in grades 3rd through 5th. Once again,
Cornerstone Kids, Inc. participated in the Eckerd Family Foundation
Scholarship Initiative awarding over ten scholarships to students.

In October, “Lights on After School” was
celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of after-school programs.
A successful “Open-House” was held for family members
and friends.

Bank of America sponsored a fieldtrip for the children
and chaperones to attend the Glazer Children’s Museum. Traveler’s
employees tutored once a week for four weeks. Halloween was celebrated
with a party and lots of donated-treats by Edna Locker and Marge Mayes.

Sweetbay Supermarket in partnership with the food
bank awarded Cornerstone a large freezer.

The Board of Directors held a successful “Garage
Sale & Fish Fry” fundraiser.

Our Annual Thanksgiving bag and turkey distribution
was held on November 18th. Cornerstone Board of Directors provided
food items for each family.

Cornerstone Annual Christmas Program/Party &
Gift Distribution was exciting. The children received gifts and shoes
from organizations and private donors. Thanks to all our Christmas
donors, we are very grateful.

In 2010, over 6,000 well-balanced, nutritious meals
were served through the Cornerstone Kids Café. Feeding America
Tampa Bay is the program’s food provider. Thanks to St. John
The Divine Outreach Committee for donating serving supplies in 2010.
The following foundation, corporate and other grants were
awarded to Cornerstone Kids, Inc. in 2010: Bank of America
Foundation, Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, Conn Memorial Foundation,
Travelers Foundation, Southwest Diocesan Council Grant, Jubilee Ministry
Grant, and St. John’s Outreach Committee
Grant. Through grants, proceeds from the Lincoln-Douglass
Ball and generous monetary and in-kind donations from
private donors, churches/outreach ministries in the Episcopal Diocese
of Southwest Florida, friends, board members and St. James House of
Prayer parishioners, the program is able to meet its yearly budget.
Special thanks to the members of the Cornerstone Board of Directors
for their strong support, leadership, hard work and encouragement all
year. Our year ended with hope for the future especially in our economic
climate, and grateful for the past.
