Summer Enrichment Program Was A Success
The children
of Cornerstone Kids, Inc. completed their 6-week Summer Enrichment
Program on July 13, 2006. The program ended with a beautiful “End
of Summer” program featuring Miss Shauna Greene of “Silent
Praize,” a praise performer worshipping in Spirit and Truth through
movement. The children in grades K-2nd performed by counting and singing
in Spanish and playing two musical renditions by shaking colored bells
to coordinating colors on a chart. The children in grades 3rd -5th
performed an upbeat Hip-Hop Dance and a beautiful Liturgical Dance
both choreographed by Tiphani Sanders, who successfully completed her
internship with the Cornerstone Program from May –August. Tiphani
also served as the MC for the program.
As a part of
the program, the children attended a math workshop and computer lab
twice a week. They were also entertained by movies, arts
and crafts, inside board games and organized outside activities. The
girls in grades 3-5 attended an Ophelia Circle workshop (“Full
of Yourself”) on-site once a week that was sponsored by the YMCA.
The children also enjoyed field trips to Chuck E Cheese, MOSI, USA
Skating and Pin Teasers Bowling Lane. The field trip that was most
exciting and highly enjoyed by everyone was the “Kids Lunch Cruise” on
the Show Queen in Clearwater. A big “Thank You” goes out
to our hard- working instructors and our high-school summer volunteers-Angelica,
Brittani, Devon and Micaela.
Special thanks to Bayshore Baptist Youth Ministry for providing backpacks
and school supplies for 35 children who attended the Summer Enrichment
Program.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who graciously
donated funds to the Cornerstone Program in honor of our beloved Sarah
Jordan-Holmes. Thanks for helping to make a difference in the lives
of the children who attend our program.
Olatha Leggett,
Program Director
