Cornerstone Kids, Inc.
(After-School Program)
The mission of Cornerstone Kids, Inc. is to reach at-risk inner city
children and to assist in their educational, spiritual, and emotional
development in a safe, secure and nurturing environment.
Cornerstone
Kids, Inc. is 501 (c) (3) Outreach Ministry of St. James House of
Prayer which provides a comprehensive after-school program
in which the children of the Tampa Heights Community who are five to
eleven years of age can receive homework assistance, tutoring, computer
training, reading comprehension, arts and crafts, educational/recreational
activities and field trips. There are approximately 40 children enrolled
in the program. In addition to the activities offered, a hot nutritious
meal is served daily. The program operates 5 days a week from 2:30PM
to 5:30PM with a staff of six and a small pool of volunteers.
During
the summer, the Cornerstone Kids Program operates on a modified schedule
Monday through Thursday from 12 noon until 4pm. Lunch is served
daily. The curriculum includes computer training, beginners Spanish,
etiquette training, songs and movement, indoor board games, arts and
crafts, organized outdoor activities, field trips and other enrichment
activities.
Cornerstone
Kids, Inc. has a diverse fourteen-member board of directors that
make decisions concerning the direction and fiscal management
of the program and assists with projects and fund raising responsibilities.
Through grants, special projects, fundraisers, contributions from
private donors; churches, friends and parishioners; the program is
able to meet its yearly operations budget.
