Cornerstone Kids, Inc.
(After-School Program)

The mission of Cornerstone Kids, Inc. is to reach at-risk inner city children and to assist in their educational, spiritual, and emotional development in a safe, secure and nurturing environment.

Cornerstone Kids, Inc. is 501 (c) (3) Outreach Ministry of St. James House of Prayer which provides a comprehensive after-school program in which the children of the Tampa Heights Community who are five to eleven years of age can receive homework assistance, tutoring, computer training, reading comprehension, arts and crafts, educational/recreational activities and field trips. There are approximately 40 children enrolled in the program. In addition to the activities offered, a hot nutritious meal is served daily. The program operates 5 days a week from 2:30PM to 5:30PM with a staff of six and a small pool of volunteers.

During the summer, the Cornerstone Kids Program operates on a modified schedule Monday through Thursday from 12 noon until 4pm. Lunch is served daily. The curriculum includes computer training, beginners Spanish, etiquette training, songs and movement, indoor board games, arts and crafts, organized outdoor activities, field trips and other enrichment activities.

Cornerstone Kids, Inc. has a diverse fourteen-member board of directors that make decisions concerning the direction and fiscal management of the program and assists with projects and fund raising responsibilities.

Through grants, special projects, fundraisers, contributions from private donors; churches, friends and parishioners; the program is able to meet its yearly operations budget.
